To Change the World, Start by Making Your Bed

To understand the important of making our bed each morning, we should listen to the words of Naval Admiral William McRaven, the commander of U.S Special Operations, in a  2014 commencement speech at University of Texas at Austin. He said:

“If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.”
“By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.”

According to him, making the bed might be a small accomplishment, but it’s very important because it sets the tone for the entire day. If you want to know more, you can buy his bestseller book “Make your Bed”.

Relaxing effect

Making your bed can reduce your stress levels more than you have idea. If you keep your bed clean and organized, it will reflect in your entire personal space and your state of mind. It’s important to feel everything in the right place so we can have a more organized mind and, consequently, a more organized life.

We have good days, and sometimes we have really bad ones These are the type days everyone has from time to time, when we dream about collapsing onto our mattress and curling up in our sheets. When we’re having one of those bad days, it’s a comfortable and relaxing idea to know that our bed is freshly made in our home, waiting for us.

Your room will instantly look cleaner

A messy bed can make your entire bedroom looks a mess, even if it’s not. This works also the other way around, specially if you have a tiny room. A well made bed will give your entirely bedroom a beautiful and stylish look, as well as a clean and relaxing atmosphere. Don’t believe us? Make the test!

Making your bed in the morning will also encourage you to keep the rest of your room tidy during the day. You’ll likely feel inspired to improve your bedroom’s appearance in other ways, even if it’s something small like cleaning your closet.

Once the act of making your bed becomes a ritual, you may find that other good habits will naturally follow. You won’t feel comfortable with clothes on the floor or with dust. You’ll start treasuring that your home feels like a wonderful, restful retreat.
